Julia Vaughan Smith

I am an accredited master executive coach and coach supervisor with nearly 30 years of experience; I have also  practised as a registered integrative psychotherapist. Over the last 15 years I have specialised in the study of trauma learning from Thomas Hubl, Professor Franz Ruppert,   Dr Gabor Mate,  Dr Richard Swartz and Dr Bessel van der Kolk among many others.  I came to trauma healing work through my practise as a therapist and my involvement with family constellations, which took me into the trauma constellation field as a learner and facilitator.

My first book  was  'Therapist to Coach' (2005), followed by  'Coaching and Trauma' (2019). My new book 'Daughters:How to Untangle Yourself from Your Mother' was published in June of this year and is getting great reviews. For a long time I was one of only a few people talking about coaching and trauma and it is great to see others entering the field.

I have had a varied career involving heading up two successful organisational and leadership development consultancies, working in the health sector across the UK and internationally including Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Russia and Australia. As part of that I was involved in many Leadership Development Programmes, including the national Leadership Programme for GPs, and an Honorary Fellow of Exeter University Business School.  I have run coach training programmes and contributed to those run by others. In the long distant past I was a nurse at St Thomas's Hospital, and then a Nurse Manager within Exeter Health Authority before being Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Strategy for a national NHS education and training organisation for England and Wales. In between, I also taught for a few years in Further Education and was a Nurse Researcher for an epidemiological study of sexually transmitted disease.

I now live in East Devon, by the sea, continuing to learn about living in this turbulent world and what it requires within and from me.  I have also been exploring what trauma informed leadership really means and similarly about healing collective and ancestral trauma, as well as personal trauma.
